Raspberry Citrus Salt: Sweet, Tart, and Just a Little Bit Magical

A Kitchen Witch’s Perspective

There’s something deeply satisfying about making your own salts, especially when the ingredients are as vibrant and lively as freeze-dried raspberries and citrus zest. This Raspberry Citrus Salt isn’t just a recipe – It’s a little jar of edible sunshine. Whether your stirring it into summer salads, rimming a glass for a twilight mocktail, or sprinkling it on roasted vegetables, it adds sparkle in more ways than one.

You’ll Love this Raspberry Citrus Salt

Bright, tart, and subtly floral, this Raspberry Citrus Salt is a sweet-and-savory multitasker. Made with freeze-dried raspberries, hibiscus powder, citrus zest (I use both lemon and lime), and coarse sea salt, it adds a burst of color and flavor wherever it lands.

Sprinkle it over grilled chicken, use it to rim a mocktail glass, or dust it over roasted veggies, goat cheese, or even dark chocolate. It’s a small-batch blend with big personality… and it just might become your kitchen’s new secret weapon.

Raspberry Citrus Salt

Ingredients

  • 6 tbsp coarse sea salt
  • 3 tbsp freeze dried raspberries, crushed (about 1/2 cup whole)
  • 1 tbsp combined lemon and lime zest (add directly to salt and let dry together)
  • 1/2 tsp hibiscus powder (optional for rich color and tart flavor)

Instructions

Hibiscus Powder

  • Add ~2 tbsp dried hibiscus flowers into a clean spice grinder. Grind into powder.

Raspberry Citrus Salt

  • Crush the raspberries using a mortal and pestle (or spice grinder) until textured but not too fine.
  • Zest your lemon and lime and add directly to the salt mixture. Let the combined mixture air dry, uncovered, in a thin layer for several hours or overnight, stirring occasionally.
  • Once dry, combine with remaining ingredients and stir gently to distribute flavors and colors evenly.
  • Store in an airtight spice jar or 4 oz mason jar in a cool, dry place.

Notes

Use me on:
  • Rim a glass for mocktails, margaritas, or sparkling lemonade
  • Sprinkle over grilled chicken, shrimp, or tofu
  • Add to summer salads (like watermelon & feta or citrus beet)
  • Dust over roated beets or sweet potatoes
  • Top goat cheese or brie with crackers for a fancy appetizer
  • Sprinkle on chocolate-dipped strawberries or brownies
  • Try on avocado toast with a drizzle of honey (trust me!)
Gift Idea:
Add a handwritten label or printed tag with the recipe and suggested uses. Pair with a jar of infused honey or a mocktail mixer for a beautiful homemade gift!

Why These Ingredients?

I like to use both lemon and lime zest for a more layered citrus note. Lemon brings brightness and familiarity, while lime adds a sharper, almost floral punch that pairs beautifully with the tangy raspberries. If you’re feeling extra magical (and extra floral!), a bit of hibiscus powder can deepen the color and bring subtle floral warmth to the blend.

Storage & Gifting Tips

This salt stores beautifully in a small airtight jar for up to 3 months, especially if kept away from moisture and direct sunlight. I love gifting it in tiny glass spice jars with handwritten labels – it makes a thoughtful, seasonal hostess gift or a unique addition to a DIY kitchen witch gift basket. Don’t forget to include a little card with usage ideas!

How to Use It

This salt shines in both savory and sweet settings. Try it on:

  • Grilled chicken or shrimp
  • Summer salads (especially watermelon & feta)
  • Roasted vegetables
  • Goat cheese or brie
  • Chocolate-dipped strawberries
  • Rim for mocktails, lemonade, or sparkling water
  • Avocado toast with a drizzle of honey (surprisingly amazing)

In the Mocktail Lounge

This salt is especially magical when paired with pink or citrus-based drinks. Try it on a glass of lemonade with muddle berries, a grapefruit fizz, or even your favorite non-alcoholic gin & tonic. That splash of color around the rim? It’s not just pretty – it’s a burst of flavor with every sip.
