Easy Mug Cake Mix
Craving a quick treat but don’t want to keep a pile of ready-made sweets in the house? I feel you – if there’s dessert on hand, it’s not long before it mysteriously disappears (thanks, family!). That’s why this easy mug cake mix has become my go-to solution. It lets me whip up a single-serve dessert in just a minute, whenever the mood strikes. The best part is… no giant cake sitting around to tempt us all week long.
I generally don’t keep ready-made sweets in the house because when I do, they just get eaten and I no longer have ready-made sweets in the house.
It’s a vicious cycle.
Over the years we’ve experimented with all sorts of brownie-in-a-mug cakes, and even tried store-bought options like “Mugging” from the grocery store. While those work in a pinch, the cost adds up fast. Enter my favorite baking hack: Duncan Hines to the rescue! With this DIY easy mug cake mix, you’ll always have a quick fix on hand, made from a simple combo of boxed cake mix and angel food cake mix.
Right now, I keep big Ball jars filled with both chocolate and yellow cake mixes (see photo!), but the possibilities are endless – think spice cake, lemon, or any flavor you love. Just scoop out 3 tablespoons of mix, add 2 tablespoons of water, and microwave for a minute. Customize with fruit, chocolate chips, or extract for a magical touch.
Pro tip: Store your easy mug cake mix in half-gallon jars, and you’ll always be ready to satisfy a craving – or treat your favorite “man-child” to a dessert fix! (Bonus: these jars are perfect for all sorts of kitchen witchery projects, from limoncello to herbal teas)
